Issue Date – 21st February 2006
Dear Customer,
Recent coverage on national TV and in newspapers has highlighted concerns about the ease with which an intruder can gain access to premises by interfering with the door profile cylinder.
As a leading manufacturer and distributor of hardware components and ancillary products Laird Security Hardware wishes to help its customers to understand and respond to the issues raised.
The issue raised relates to the ease with which an intruder can gain access to a property by breaking the profile cylinder.
It also made a misleading reference to a “Euro profile Lock” implying that the lock itself was easy to disengage.
We can advise our Customers that our range door locks have been rigorously tested, meet the requirements of PAS023 and 024 and are licensed by Secured by Design.
As an industry we have been developing an improved security standard for door sets; this has now been incorporated into the latest PAS 24 standard (from 16th December 2005) and includes a cylinder test within the standard.
Laird Security Hardware strongly recommends that the correct size of cylinder is selected to ensure that the outside half of the cylinder does not protrude past the handle back plate.
This prevents an intruder from gaining a grip on the cylinder with a view to breaking it. To comply with this standard we have designed a new innovative product to specifically protect cylinders from attack called the Euro-Secure Cylinder Guard.
Three solutions are available:
1. Composite Doors
2. PVC-u Doors
3. Remedial Applications
